Get involved

Crucial Crew is managed by a committee of trustees, all volunteers with a variety of police and professional backgrounds. Activities include managing the event, arranging DBS/CRB checks, completing risk assessments and liaising with all involved.

Crucial Crew is totally non-profit making, with only sufficient funds attracted and used for its annual events. The charity is indebted to the Defence Estates (DIO) / Landmark, who make no charge for the use of their facilities and also to all the professionals and volunteers who participate.

Become a volunteer.
Crucial Crew cannot run without the invaluable support of its volunteers. If you would like to be involved why not start off as a volunteer chaperone, attending for just one day, or as many of the 10 operating days as you like. For companies, this is an excellent opportunity to send your staff on a personal development activity aimed at giving something back to the local community. Your day will start with refreshments and a briefing at 09.30. Lunch is provided during a break at noon and the event finishes at 2.15 pm daily.

As a responsible adult chaperone, you are asked to accompany about 12 children as they move from scenario to scenario. At each 15 minute presentation, just stand back, watch and listen, as the children receive safety and social awareness information from the professionals. The usual reaction from first-time volunteers is: “I wish I’d benefited from this type of event when I was 11 years old”.

The 2023 event is being held from 15 – 26 May 2023.  If you’d like to know more please contact Jan Owen on 01743 449112 or 07969 534446

Alternatively, if you feel a little unsure about anything, just ring Jan and ask if you can come along and observe.
